Dr. Fortea is a behavioral neurologist and the director of the Memory Unit at the Hospital of Sant Pau and the Alzheimer Down Unit at the Catalan Foundation for Down syndrome in Barcelona, Spain. The unit´s main achievement has been the creation a pioneering population-based health plan to screen for Alzheimer disease in adults with Down syndrome and its associated research program, DABNI, the largest single center in the world. His expertise is recognized nationally and internationally. Dr. Fortea is the principal investigator of several research projects in Europe and the US, and he has co-authored more than 200 publications. He is an active member of several scientific committees and recipient of several awards as well as member of several societies. Dr. Fortea is the current Chair of the Down Syndrome Professional Interest Area (Alzheimer’s Association, USA) and the Chair of the Behavioral Neurology and Dementia Study Group of the Spanish Neurological Society.
