Dr. Florence Lai graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and is a board certified Neurologist with special training in Child Neurology. At MGH, she treats young people with learning disorders, and also specializes in evaluating adults with Down syndrome (McLean/MGH). She authored the first large prospective clinicopathologic study of Alzheimer disease in those with Down syndrome and has assessed over 800 patients whom she follows serially. She is currently a site principal investigator of a multisite NIH study of Alzheimer disease in Down syndrome that includes neuropsychological testing,, genetic and metabolomic biomarkers and neuroimaging studies. She is aware of the medical and behavioral challenges of Alzheimer disease in this special population. It is for this reason that she is passionate about supporting research that will find a treatment for this devastating disease.
