Dr. Costa is Clinical Professor at the Department Psychiatry and Research Professor at the Department of Macromolecular Science & Engineering, Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. For the past 26 years, Dr. Costa has been investigating the pathophysiology of the neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative components of Down syndrome with emphasis on preclinical and clinical pharmacological interventions. He was the principal investigator of a phase II clinical trial of the effects of memantine on the cognitive abilities of adolescents and young adults with Down syndrome, which was recently published in The Lancet Neurology.
